Sometimes it's all too easy to get bogged down by the not-so-kind side of writing to be published. Writing query letters, writing sucknopsis (whoops I mean synopsis), sending out queries, receiving rejections, receiving partial requests then more rejections. It's all too easy to start feeling down, to wallow in a pit of frustration and despair.
But what about writing makes you love it? Why are you a writer?
For me, the fun part of writing is... well, the writing part. I love writing first drafts, to take a spark of an idea and blow it up into 80-110k worth of words. To meet new characters, to give them flaws, to put them into dangerous situations, to find a happy resolution. To discover new worlds, strange fantasy creatures. To experience things I've never experienced before, will never experience. That's why I'm a writer. That's why I write.
What about you?

I enjoy both the initial draft, just getting the story down on paper, and the revisions. I like shaping and improving my story and watching it come to life.
I love the general creation of an idea and putting it down on "paper." I say paper in quotes because it's generally the computer screen. I hate writing by long hand. I think that is the best part for me. The other stuff can be fun sometimes and a pain in the a$$ other times, but the creation is almost always fun.
I LOVE that first draft. The rush of opening up a blank word document and typing CHAPTER 1 . . .. Love it. :)
The first draft and the last draft are the best. I don't care for all those in-between drafts though. ;)
Good point, and I SO had to laugh at the sucknopsis. LOL Yeah, not my favorite part either, along with queries. I just love to write the novels! and I don't even mind revisions, frankly. I like to see the story shaping up.
By the way, your blog design is BEAUTIFUL! Love it. :o)
I wouldn't do it if I didn't love it. Because I sure ain't making a living out of it! :o) LOL 'sucknopsis'. Love it. Gonna use that from now on.
I enjoy that part of it too because it means I got past the huge hurdle of NOT writing. But I like revisions even more.
I love the writing part, too.
For me, the best part is making people laugh! And it's really REALLY cool if you can make them say, "I wish I'd thought of that"
Great post Nicole. I think I am driven to write. It flushes out my negative feelings and replaces them with excitement, love and positive thoughts.

Sucknopsis!! Hehe...that's perfect. :)
I'm with you...the first draft is exhilarating.
I love characters. And I love writing a perfect sentence. I don't mean grammar. I mean the kind of sentence that makes you want to clap for joy, laugh out loud, or bawl your eyes out.
I love being a teenager with super powers, world building, love interest and tons of emotion when I write I am morphing into another world. It's wonderful.
I love writing! I love meeting new people and finding out about them. I love delving into their souls and discovering things about them I never would have guessed. That's the bizarre part of writing that freaks non-writers out when you tell them about it. They can't understand how I could NOT know something about MY characters, lol.
So yeah. Like you, I write to experience new things!
Writing takes me to a different world and lets me get a break from my own. I love it because I sometimes have control in my world. Sometimes.
I'm a first-drafter, too. My facebook friends came up with a name for it: visionists. The people who like revisions better are re-visionists. I think that says it all - I like to create a vision of a different world! :)
