National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Today is the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. A bunch of us bloggers are speaking up today against bullies.

Although the picture is funny, it has a point. Bullies are everywhere - in school, when you go out shopping, and even on the computer.

There's a reason why I don't allow anonymous comments on my blog. To many times, people will hide behind anonymity to belittle and degrade people on the internet. If you aren't willing to attach your name to your comment, maybe that should tell you that the comment shouldn't be said.

The world would be a much better place if everyone remembered what our mothers tried to teach us - if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I agree. People seem to be more cruel on the internet because they are cowards and don't have to speak to someone's face.

Thanks for speaking up, Nicole. We've got to stop the bullying.

Well put! I your identity has to be concealed, it shouldn't be said.

*I love that you're giving this the attention it deserves. People who hide behind their thoughtless words should not have the opportunity to hurt others.

I've had bullies a couple years ago who tried to bully people in my comment section. Some used their real names, others did not. I had to monitor my comments before letting them post for six months until I was sure they left and did not come back.

Anonymous comments: the new bullying.

Thanks for taking a stand, Nicole.

Very true what Mom says. Thanks for spreading the word about such an important cause.

Such a great cause. I didn't realize I could block anonymous comments. Thanks for getting the message about bullying!

Great message about bullying.

Although the anonymous comments I get are always from spammers. Don't care much about them either.

Too right! :)

Glad you're posting about this! And that picture, so good! I can't believe how harsh kids can be--especially online!

Hi, Nicole. You make a very good point. If you don't want to put your name or photo next to your comment then maybe what you're thinking shouldn't be said.

Bullying definitely isn't a new phenomenon; it's been around since the dawn of humans. But with the popularity of social networking sites, it's finally being addressed more seriously. Bullying must stop among adults first. Only then will children learn to be compassionate and kind and respectful. Thanks for bringing more awareness to this very serious issue.

Such great points. You'd think we wouldn't have to talk about this anymore, but sadly it seems like it's getting worse.

I hate to say it, but - on the internet, we're all anonymous. You don't really know me and I don't really know you. (no, I'm not a 25-year-old male pedophile - or am I?) (no, no I'M NOT!!)

Sometimes these interwebs can be really great - and sometimes they aren't. Like life, right? Something to think about, for sure!

That's so true. Bullying has to stop.

It is a lot harder for kids now with all the technology and social media. Growing up I experience both bullying and the violence that came a long with it. The sad part of all is even though I was the victim kids hated me for trying to get help.

The Internet does seem to bring out the bullies, doesn't it? It's really sad, actually.

Thanks for taking part in helping to raise awareness!

Hi Nicole,
Yes, online anonymity breeds mindless aggression. I applaud you for speaking out on this. Catherine Stine, not anon!
