If my house was on fire, I would make sure my family was safe and then probably not go back in for anything. If I was certain no one would get hurt, I might grab important papers and my hard drive.
We've always told our son, "If the house in on fire you get out. Leave everything else behind, even the cats. The cats can be replaced, but you can't."
So, I would definitely save my family, and hopefully be able to save my pets as well. As for the rest, it is all replaceable.
Ditto. We had this talk with our 9 yo the other day. He said he would go back to save his DVD (which are in his room!!!!). We told him NO. He has to get out. No going back for anything. DVDs can be replaced. He can't.
The great Erma Bombeck once said she'd save the three P's. People, pets, and photos. Of course, for many of us, that last one would change to whatever storage device your photos are on - unless you use a cloud storage. But, really, everything else is just stuff.
I have a bag packed with the important things that I always keep with me when I leave the house. So, get the wife, kids, cat, and dog, and if there's time, that bag.
Of course assuming family/dog is safe and there was time--my flashdrive, laptop, & the early scrapbooks for my kids since that was before we had digital cameras.
we had that unfortunate experience a year and a half ago. Until you live through it, you have no idea how fast smoke from a fire will fill your house. Just get out. Dont bother thining about anything else but getting your family to safety as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, we did all get out, but if we had been even 30 seconds longer, we might not have.
Family first, of course! If I had time I'd grab our external hard drive and definitely my flash drives! And my phone, if I could. Geez, my list is too long probably! :-p
