Writing Update

Hi, all!

I've been busy editing and writing and more editing and more writing. Seriously  it's a wonder my fingers haven't fallen off! And son #1 spilled oil on my keyboard recently so some of the keys still or have to be pressed really hard. I just bought this keyboard so I'm hoping the keys will eventually work right again and deal.

Oh, and speaking of son #1, we registered him for kindergarten yesterday at the school's open house. Yeah, I'm a complete mess over that. I have a feeling that the first day he might be a little apprehensive, but the second, he won't even look back and that will be both a blessing and yet another reason to cry. :/

Anyhow, I'm part of a group of writers writing a novel with Cupid. That novel is a MG fantasy about a sister and brother who are trapped in a land ruled by the four seasons and they have to save Christmas when spring comes too early. It's the first in a five-book series. Right now, its called Winter Magic, but that might change. I definitely want to include either winter or snow or something like that in the title.

I'm also almost finished with my superhero romance! I really enjoyed writing this one. It's going to be published through Desert Breeze Publishing later on this year and will be the first in another trilogy. Still not sure of the titles of the three books but once they're finalized, I'll let you know.

I promise to start blogging more often again!

So tell me, what have you been working on?

Family Friday

Son #1 is two. He is learning words at a rapid rate but still loves to babble partly because he can talk so much faster when he's babbling.

Yesterday, he walked over to my husband's nightstand, pointed to his father in a picture of the three of us and said hubby's name. I cracked up. I pointed to myself, but he didn't want to  call me or himself anything. He pointed to his father again and again said his name, at which point I tried to get him to say 'daddy' but he promptly ignored me and started to get into things he shouldn't.

Now son #1 loves to call his daddy when daddy's at work. He'll take my cell phone and call him (which only works if hubby is the last person I called, son knows how to redail). When hubby answers, son always says 'Hi, da!' and babbles to his little hearts content. It's so precious. And if he's done, he'll say 'bye' and hang up.

Son #1calls me 'ma' and has a tendncy to only call me that when he feels like I'm spending too much time with his father or brotehr. He'll say 'ma' then babble for awhile. If I dare turn to look at hubby, he'll say 'ma' again to get my attention. He really is adorable.

Now he has said 'Cole' before and sometimes even 'Nicole' but he doesn't seem to associate that with me. Unlike poor hubby. And hubby at first thought it was funny to hear son say his name, but wishes his son would call him 'daddy'. We're still waiting for 'I love you.' I'm sure it won't be too long of a wait.

Picture Books

My hubby and I love to read to our sons. Son #1 especially loves it. He'll turn the pages (sometimes before we're finished reading it). There are times he'll sit with a book and flip through it while babbling. It's so precious. And I love that he loves to 'read.' He just turned 2 a few days ago and he's already a reader.

So this of course, makes me want to write books for him, stories that he would like read to him. So a light bulb went off. Picture books! I could write a picture book!

Well, writing one isn't hard. I wrote one, a cute little story about a baby brown bear who loves Christmas. The only problem - I know nothing about picture books. I don't know the market, how to write a query letter for it, anything really. Are any of you picture book writers? Have any pointers for me? Any suggestions? If you aren't a picture book writer, would you ever consider writing one?

He Loves me, He Loves Me Not

My son loves me, there’s no question about that.

One day, I crouched down and held out my arms. “Come give Mommy a hug.”

His face broke out into a huge smile, and he started to run toward me… but stopped in his tracks when the basketball game that my husband was watching switched to a car commercial. My son raced back to the TV and watched the entire commercial. Only then, without further prompting, did he run to me and give me my hug.

Yes, my son loves me. But he loves cars just a little bit more.
