Anthologies and Writing Update

If you look under my list of short stories, it's slowly growing. I sold another flash piece for Pill Hill Press' Daily Bites of Flesh anthology called Deadly Flat Tire. I also sold Dead Roses to Gone with the Dirt: Undead Dixie. This anthology contains stories about the south, during the Civil War, about zombies. I adore Gone with the Wind, so I really wanted to be included in this anthology. Don't you just love the cover? I love all of PHP's covers.

I also sold a short Christmas sweet romance story to Night Wolf Publications called My Christmas Luck in A Yuletide Wish anthology.

I use duotrope.com to find most of the anthologies. Duotrope is such a wonderful resource. You should check it out, if you haven't already.

I love writing short stories for anthologies. However, I'm going to stop writing them for the time being so I can clear my plate and gear up for Nano. November is almost here! I'm getting excited (while hubby is groaning, lol)

Do you write short stories? Have you ever tried to get into an anthology?

I've just started to get into short stories. I kind of like the break when I'm working on longer stuff. I've been curious about ways to get them published, so thanks for the timely info, Nicole.

Congratulations on your success as well!

I've written a couple short stories but never pursued publication.

Congratulations on your inclusion in the anthology! Gone With the Wind - with zombies. I like that concept!

Congrats on your short story success! I'm not into reading short stories so I would never write them. Novels only for me. :)

I'll have to check out that resource. I've never tried to get my short stories published. Does that make me a lazy writer?

Congrats with the recent acceptances.

I sometimes use Duotrope or friends who mention anthologies to find anthologies to submit to. I mainly look on ralan.com, since most of them are there in a nice little list.

I do enjoy writing short stories for anthologies, but it can sure be difficult to find a place for said stories if you don't get in.

I actually started writing short stories as an exercise...I'm very wordy to begin with and in a short story every word counts, so I wanted to see if I could do it. I've had two short stories accepted for anthologies. 'Runaway' was released in Pill Hill's "Silver Moon, Bloody Bullets an Anthology of Werewolf Tales" and another, 'Midnight Watch' will be released in Pill Hill's 2011 Daily Flashes of Erotica this winter.

I sometimes get too caught up in the short stories though. I like the quicker turn around on starting, finishing, submitting them, so I tend to ignore my novel ideas. I've decided, however, with NaNo coming up, that I'll set aside the shorts and focus on the novel idea for a while.

I've written several short stories, but never tried getting them published. I've tried to write more than the few I've actually completed, but I usually end up making them longer...and longer...and longer until I'm writing a novel. :P I don't do well with short stories.

Nicole, you are so prolific it makes me sick. Hahaha. Congratulations on the acceptance into the zombie anthology!

I use Duotrope for anthology postings, but I often find myself starting stories for them and giving up halfway through. Sometimes I thought the idea had inspired me, but it really didn't... yes, this is a personal hurdle I need to jump over. :)

There's an award for you over on my blog today! Do with it what you will.

I've published about 20 short stories over the last year or so, but have slowed down my submissions of late because I have 2 novels I've been querying and revising and querying and revising. Plus, two other writers and I have been writing linked novellas to go into an anthology of our own.

And with NaNo coming up, I'm trying to focus my attention on that idea for a while. But when I'm done, I'm sure there will be more shorts. I love writing short stories.

Congratulations on all the sales! I have several short stories half-written or completed but in need of editing. Your post inspires me to dig them out, clean them up and submit!
