Gearing up to get an Agent Blogfest - Introduction post
Gearing up to get an agent blogfest is a wonderful blogfest for authors. Learn more details and sign up here!
Ok, I'm supposed to write a bio. Let's see... I turned 28 yesterday. Had a great birthday with my family--my awesome hubby and three wonderful boys. I'm an author, obviously, and an editor. My life revolves around my family and my writing.
Q&A
-Where do you write?
Usually at home, either early in the morning or late at night. On some Sundays, hubby will watch the boys so after church, I'll go to B&N and write there for a few hours.
-Quick. Go to your writing space, sit down and look to your left. What is the first thing you see?
The Emotion Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi
-Favorite time to write?
Whenever there aren't any distractions! :P
-Drink of choice while writing?
Water. That's what I drink 99% of the time.
-When writing , do you listen to music or do you need complete silence?
If I needed complete silence, I would never be able to write! I can block out most background sounds. I love music but I get too distracted by it (I start singing along) so I can't listen to music and write.
-What was your inspiration for your latest manuscript and where did you find it?
My EIC mentioned how she was talking to an author about superhero romances and the wheels just started to churn.
-What's your most valuable writing tip?
Just sit down and write. The words will come. Sometimes we focus too much on finding the perfect word or phrases. Just get the first draft down and then tweak. You can't perfect what isn't first written.
Great to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm guilty of focusing on the perfect word. And so many of you selected water today - good for you!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated b-day! Whoo hoo for being 28! ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for having boys to distract us from our writing, but who bring us so much joy. :)
Superhero romance! Love it. ;) Also love THE EMOTION THESAURUS. Such a great book!
ReplyDeleteVery nice to meet you, Nicole!
Happy Birthday Nicole! Fun learning more about your writing process.
ReplyDeleteI'm a water drinker, as well. Good to know there are quite a few of us!
ReplyDeleteGreat writing tip, and I enjoyed the glimpse into your writing life. Enjoy GUTGAA!
Water is good, but in winter I always have to go with tea or my hands would freeze to the keyboard.
ReplyDeleteI so agree about just forcing words to get onto the page - after all they can always be changed, and probably will be, but at least it's a start!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! I turn 28 next Tuesday! ;)
ReplyDeleteI too get caught up in that musical distraction conundrum. :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI just bought that book aand love it!
ReplyDeleteHello, hello! Haven't been in the blog universe for awhile, but I'm glad you are partaking in some GUTGAA fun, too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful background and header. Very eye-catching. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice. Get the crap on the page, then worry about making it pretty :)
ReplyDeleteHi from another GUTGAA participant.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. Another one of my favorite mantras--especially during a first draft. "I can fix it later. Right now, I've just got to get it down."
I wish I'd been ready for this event. Nice info, Nicole. I know I'm guilty of the "sometimes we focus too much on finding the perfect word or phrases" thing too many times.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you on board for GUTGAA!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the belated birthday wishes. Glad you had a great time with family :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your tip. I really need it because I'm guilty of doing that sometimes...okay, more than sometimes lol!!
Nice to "meet" you! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you. Your blog is so purty by the way. :) See you around GUTGAA!
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) birthday! Nice to see you participating in GUTGAA, too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Happy Birthday. I am water and silence too
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way with music while writing.
ReplyDeleteAnd why do people keep saying water is boring? There's quite a few people who choose that while writing!
I like the idea of writing at B&N. Maybe it helps your brain absorb all the good literature around you. :)
ReplyDeleteYay for Birthdays! Hope you had a good one, which it sounds like you did. I'm with you, I try to write whenever there aren't distractions, but they sadly hard to come by. It was nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason your post was completely black on my iPad, so I couldn't read your answers. Sorry, but hello. It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteWhat great magically delish website! Love the little fairy creature next to your name. I use the emotional thesaurus, too--it's a great list to get the inspiration flowing. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to buy The Emotion Thesaurus... Do you recommend it? Enjoy GUTGAA!
ReplyDeleteWater + Silence = Great book :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on finding an agent. Been a follower of yours for a while.
ReplyDeleteOh I totally agree. I give myself permission to just let it suck on the first draft, then go back and find the perfect verbs or wording.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed by all the water you drink. I am trying to drink more- but I love my diet iced tea. :) I have heard a lot about The Emotion Thesaurus.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday. You have the same birthday as one of my BFs.:)
