A Writerly Question

So the Gearing Up to Get an Agent Blogfest has arrived and it's assignment time.

Assignment 1: Take the greatest, dumbest, weirdest...just whatever kind of writing question you have, and post it on your blog Wednesday.  
 
Let's see... my question isn't that great or dumb or weird but what's your favorite writer message board?

And another one, just for fun, how do you as a writer connect with readers?

    Rofl! I had to Google what a writer message board actually is. Oh, boy do I have a lot to learn! :)

    As far as readers go, I suppose I connect through my blog.

    Verla Kay's blue boards are my favorite - through the boards I've scored great beta readers and a crit group! Indispensable.

    I like A writers Block on Time4Mommy. Other than that, I'm mostly too dang busy with my blog and writing to get on one. But I REALLY want to! Absolute write sounds as good as any:)

    As for question 2, THE BLOG all the way. I have met amazing people that way.

    Q1: AgentQueryConnect and AbsoluteWrite are both pretty fantastic. Great query critiques there.

    Q2: I feel like I'm so new at connecting with other writers!! But blogging and tweeting have been great get-your-feet wet ways for me. I adore twitter...

    I use Writing.Com. It's a big site, but there are some amazing groups there, and I've made the best writing friends there...

    I don't know how to answer the first question. I use a private board (boo on the elitist!)

    But for the second question, I write for me. I am my audience. Then I just make sure that I can broaden that audience (watch for things that turn people off books; language, info dumps, etc) and then edit accordingly.

    I use the message boards on Scribophile.com. Members only, but they are great message boards and the site is a great place for quality critiques.

    As for connecting to readers, at the moment I guess my blog would be my only way, but then I really don't have readers yet :)

    Hmm, I guess I didn't really know what a message board was! Oops. I do feel compelled to check out Absolute Write now, so I'm glad you asked. ☺
    As for finding readers, hmm, I guess I met my critique group through WriteOnCon. :)

    Absolute write, good tip. I just joined two writers boards but I am not sure yet as to how helpful they are going to be yet. Connecting to readers for me is through my blogging.

    I'm a huge Query Tracker fan. I've used their query crits and first-five pages crits, as well as found great blogs.

    Hi, Nicole, I'm another fan of Absolute Write. :)

    I've also found more success connecting with readers via my blog and Twitter than I have with my FB fan page. I'd be curious to hear if anyone participating in the blogfest has had success with their fan page.

    I don't spend a lot of time on message boards right now. One of my critique partner does and she passes along news to us. I do love Guide to Literary Agents.

    I think I connect with readers by trying to understand my audience. I was born an observer of people often times to my detriment because I'm ultra sensitive. My critique partners help me a lot with keeping my stories believable, even though they are fantasy;)

    Great questions! Verla Kay's Blueboards is a good one for YA writers, though I prefer making connections through my blog these days.
