I don't know about you, but I always feel a little depressed after all the hoopla of the holidays are over. Maybe it's because the house seems so much smaller and quieter with all the relatives gone. Or the cleaning up the house and tripping over all the kiddies new toys. Or no more listening to Christmas music 24/7 until next Black Friday.
What I like most about the holidays is the sense of family. Family is something that is so important to me - spending time with loved ones, creating lasting memories, laughing and joking over a warm meal. That is what the holidays are all about.
Togetherness. Love. Family. Friendship.
Do you ever feel the post holidays blues? How do you overcome the symptoms? Should I just pig out on leftovers? :) What do you like most about the holidays?
I always have this mixture of post-holiday blues, with a need to get back to routine.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I miss the special family moments and that special sense of magic that only the holidays bring! But, there's also something great about getting back to normal, to keep the specialness of the holidays for just a short while until they return again. I try HARD to focus on that and fight the blues! ;-)
I do too! But I try to focus on the possibilities of the New Year!
ReplyDeletePigging out on leftovers is definitely the way to go :)
ReplyDeleteBut once those are gone, there's the potential of a new year to think about. Sometimes that helps to pull me out of those 'down' moments -- it's fresh start time, and spring is just around the corner!
The holiday blues were magnified this year because after Christmas me and my hubby got slammed by the flu. :( Total bummer!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to be back on track now and into the schedule of normal days. 2011 is gonna be a great year!
I'm sorry you get the blues, but I'm decidedly on the other side. I just feel relieved. I don't live near my family and travel isn't always possible. During the holidays, I struggle with the image of what holidays should be and it always weighs me down. So, at their conclusion, I breathe a sigh of relief and bask in the knowledge that I have eleven months before I have to measure my life up against commercials that show what the holidays should be.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do think that pigging out on all the leftovers is a perfectly respectable thing to do in this situation (I've been eating bunches for the past couple months to get through). :)
Winter is what gives me the blues-- I am hoping I can make it through the next several months without going crazy. But I generally muddle through it by including favorite things in my day- and hopefully that will work this year!
ReplyDeleteI get winter blues. Cold, grey, and yuck always makes me crabby. I like getting back to normal for a little while after the holidays. I get blue when I think about the distance between now and the next one lol.
ReplyDeleteI hope you recover quickly and get your happy back!
Yeah, I feel those post-holiday blues too. Now the snow is not magical. It's just cold and slippery and annoying. And I miss my kids when they go back to school. Chocolate is a big help in getting over it. =)
ReplyDeleteI feel like that a day or two after Christmas. But by New Year's Day, when the decorations come down and the house looks new and clean again, I perk right back up again.
ReplyDeleteI get blue when there are no more cheery Christmas lights around the area to brighten the winter darkness.

I don't get the holiday blues. This year I'm rearing to go, with my writing that is. Hope you've chased the blues away and are stepping snappily into 2011. Leftover chokkies help.
ReplyDeleteI wish you every success this year Nicole.
Pigging out on leftovers sounds like a good plan to me.
ReplyDeleteYep, I feel a little blue too, after the holidays. Here's to some hot chocolate, for me, a instant mood lifter.
ReplyDeleteI tend not to get post holiday blues, though I know a few people who do. Routine usually wears down the blues, but I agree a mass of leftovers certainly helps :)
