One of my Favorite-est Movies

I love the movie Timeline. It's based on the book by Michael Crichton. Paul Walker, Frances O'Connor, and Gerard Butler star.

If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, Timeline is about a group of archaeologists and medieval experts who uncover some clues that suggest that Walker's father has traveled through time. They hunt down the dig's money backers and through their technology, time travel back to France in 1357. They only have a limited amount of time to get back to the present and the French warriors at war with the invading British makes locating Walker's father no easy task as their body count rises.

With time travel set in the Middle Ages, romance, action and adventure, this movie is one that I can watch over and over again. Just ask hubby, he can tell you how many times we've seen it as well as how many times I've suggested it and we (namely he) picked something else. Sure it's not the most accurate, but it's still a fun movie to watch. And it's one of the few book-based movies in which I actually like the movie better than the book.

Have you seen or read Timeline? What did you think of it? Have you ever liked a movie better than its book?

  1. I'd have to reread the book to be sure but I prefer the movie version of the Lord of the Rings. The scenery and the action scenes definitely, and I believe they integrated the Aragorn/Arwen romance a lot more, or gave her a bigger role so to speak. Though of course a lot more went on in the book. Still, just a fantastic translation.

  2. I loved the book TIMELINE, but I haven't seen the movie yet. It's on my to-watch list, though.

I'm not sure if I've ever loved the movie more than the book. I definitely think the two can compliment each other. For example, I always see and hear the characters from Harry Potter now when I read one of the Harry Potter books. It adds that extra element, but I still love the books more.

  4. I HAVE seen Timeline! It's a great one and one of my first encounters with the lovely Gerard... *sigh* (I love him with his hair long and wavy!!) I have not read the book, however. I'll have to. I also really enjoyed the LoTR movies - the books are great, but you have to trudge through a LOT of words (and songs...) to get to the story, so I (almost) prefer the movies. And, although I hate to mess with a classic, I'd rather watch "Peter Pan" (with Jason Isaacs as a kind of hot Hook - twisted, I know...) than read the book again.

  7. I've never read the book or seen the movie.

I know I've liked some movies better than the books--I just can't remember them right now!

  8. I've seen it several times. I like it but not as well as other movies. I write fantasy, but I think I love romantic movies that have a lot of humor in them. Who can forget the scene in "Sleepless in Seatle," where Meg Ryan's character is hiding in the closet to listen to the radio show. Her significant other opens the closet door and declares, "Miss Scarlet, in the broom closet with a radio." LOL

  10. Love the movie!!!!! And the book. Unlike many of the others, I preferred the LOTR books.

I'm so glad to find someone else who's heard of this book/movie! Yay!

  11. I suppose if I'd read the book I might have enjoyed the movie more. As it is, I liked it--especially the end, but...maybe it was the score. I find if the music isn't just right I have a hard time enjoying a film.

  15. I saw this sometime ago, it's an oldish movie right? Loved it thought I haven't read the book.

Are you still doing the SO Blogfest?

  16. I stopped by to read your post on the SO blogfest and stumbled upon this post as well. I just recently saw this movie and discovered it was from a book.

I haven't read it (yet). I enjoyed the movie, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I liked the payoff at the end though.
