If you’re here for the query letter blogfest, my entry is here.
If you're here for the Crazy Holiday blogfest, my entry is here.
And don't forget, today is the last day to enter my Critiques for Christmas contest!
So our tree is up and decorated, all of our Christmas shopping is done (just waiting on a few more packages), and our Christmas cards are all sent. Time to relax, right?
Naw. There are parties to go to, cookies and desserts to make, the house needs to be cleaned (I swear cleaning is evil. The house never stays clean so what's the point? I live by the saying that cleaning the house while the children are growing is like shoveling snow while it's still snowing.).
Hubby wanted son #1 to put the first ornament on the tree. So I gave him a plastic ball, which son #1 loved to throw on the kitchen floor. It bounced away from him, he would chase it, pick it up and throw it again. Eventually I "helped him put" (read: I put) the ornamanet on the tree. Then we strapped him and son #2 into their chairs so they could watch us decorate the tree.
Later on that night, son #1 somehow got free in the kitchen. Not all of our Christmas balls are plastic. He grabbed a solid red ball and threw it. Of course it was glass.
His face was priceless. Why didn't it bounce?
Poor little guy. He didn't know if he should be scared or heartbroken.
Luckily, it was a solid red ornament, not one of our nicer ones. Besides, we have more red than any other color so it was just as well. And because he threw it (even though he doesn't have a lot of arm strength yet, after all he's only 2), he didn't get hurt.
Now I make sure he doesn't get near the tree or in the kitchen. The one time he did follow me in there, he stayed away from the tree, lol
So are you ready for the holidays? What are your favorite traditions?
That's funny! Maybe they need to make rubber ornaments.
ReplyDeleteI am so not ready, this year. It's awful. I'm way behind.
ReplyDeleteWe have a tradition where all my family members come to my house sometimes during Christmas morning. My hubs is an awesome breakfast cook. He makes breakfast food throughout the morning for whoever stops by. The afternoon is saved for pies, the fireplace, movies, and football. lol
Awwww Poor little guy. When my children were young at least one ornament got broken every year. I have most of my cards written, packages are all posted to family in Ireland, the decorating is done, but as you say it is now time to clean the house and I have baking to do. Christmas snuck up on me this year.
ReplyDeleteIt was great reading about you decorating your tree. That's my favorite tradition.
ReplyDeleteGlad your son wasn't hurt.
I 100% agree with you on cleaning!! Of course, when we're all published, on the NYBS list, rich beyond imagining, etc, etc... we can hire a maid service, right?
ReplyDeleteI actually hate decorating my tree. Now that my daughter is older, I usually bribe her with extra presents to do the whole thing herself... :) BUT - I love the way they look, I love to turn the lights off and the tree lights on and just look.
I love traditions and my friends and I have started a girl's night out/game night one around Christmas time where we exchange gift and goodies, potluck dinner, and chat and play games. It's this Saturday and I'm so excited!!
Cute story about your son and the ball - I'm glad he wasn't hurt! :)
Hahaha! I would have loved to see his face!
ReplyDeleteNo. Not quite ready yet. This weekend hopefully though!
I'm glad he's okay after the ball incident :)
ReplyDeleteUntil recently, opening a present at midnight on Christmas day was my favourite tradition. I'd always open a present from a particular relative, but now I'm too old to receive presents from them the tradition has kind of died out :(
Kids and Christmas trees are scary. For a few years, we didn't put any of our glass ornaments on the tree! Too dangerous considering out son loved to throw stuff at the tree.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he didn't get hurt! Funny story, though. :)
ReplyDeleteSome friends of mine with two little ones put a coral around their Christmas tree to protect the presents and the ornaments.
ReplyDeleteJanice~
My husband's getting the tree tonight, much to my kids' delight.
ReplyDeleteI hear you about the vacuuming and shoving while it's still snowing. I had to shovel the path yesterday and it's still snowing. I gave up today. Guess I'll have to do it tonight.
I know I shouldn't laugh, but I can just imagine his face, poor thing!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time over Christmas!
Aww poor little guy!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of family Christmas traditions, but one of my favorites is Christmas Eve... we make way too much food, all the family gets together in one place, and we watch (in order): Garfield's Christmas, Mr. Bean's Christmas Episode, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the old animated version), Charlie Brown Christmas, and then A Christmas Carol starring Alistair Sim. We end up going to be waaay too late (though we're lucky to have hosted it the past few years) and eat too much food, but it's one of my best childhood memories that has continued as we're adults. I love Christmas...
I can imagine his face! Poor little guy. Hopefully he won't have an aversion to red ornaments in the future :)
ReplyDeleteWe're done shopping, but not done wrapping. We don't buy many things, which is good, but then I tend to put it off knowing there's not much to wrap!
I'm with Alex... rubber ornaments, lol.
ReplyDeleteJust a reminder! Be Jolly By Golly Blog fest is this Monday! Melissa and I look forward to reading your entry!
